The sun setting
Fills the universe with light
Beyond understanding
Restless wind
Encircling
Cave of silence

God is Love, Life, Spirit
And in the giving of Jesus Christ
Lies all life worth living
Green still island
Floating
On veils of cloud

The pomegranate crown
Bursts forth
Its seeds to nourish
The walnut embryos wait
Tucked and enfolded
In the hard womb case

The wild cyclamen
Thrusts through the friendly earth
And tastes the cloudless sky
Ripening grapes ferment
And flow and in the celebration
Transforming all

Hearts beat steadily
Aware but unconcerned, ever present
Mind looks in
Spaghetti
Must be eaten mindfully
Great attention to each strand

Nettles only sting when grasped
Stark tree-form limbs reach
Out and speak of what once was -
What is, what might have been

(On seeing child’s photo)
In your clear gaze
I find clearness
Your still image
Leads me to silence
Adagio
On the heart strings
Pouring love

The birds are
Chirping their love songs
Exultation
Winds howling
The mountains are sitting
in meditation

The acorns fall from the tree
And hold within life
The promise of fruitfulness
Olive branch
waving in the wind
symbol of peace

Clouds passing
Revealing - obscuring
Life force
Look at me
Jesus says, in everything
Not yourself

The eyes that stare
Love demands
Rubbing legs gently
Just one stone was moved,
Flowing, expanding, the stream
Irrepressibly

The howling wind
Gusts energy
Breathing life and attention
Everything that is
Blooms as a flower
On the tree that is God

A tear
Rolls down and says
Thank you -
Adieu
Wind
Earth exhales
And the clouds run for cover
From within the silence of the monastery
I am at one with the silence
Of nature without

Autumn trees
Give everything
Knowing there is more
Intention, Energy, Blood
Mantra returns to the heart
In returning, sustaining

One
Attention, Intention, Being
Love
O great mountains
Sheltering in your bosom
All of creation - plants, animals, humans

O little stone
You may not be part of castle or monastery
But you are a member
Of the family of being
The sun gleams
The oak beams back
