A READING FROM THE GOSPEL OF JESUS ACCORDING TO
LUKE (FIRST READER ONLY.)
The land of a rich couple produced an abundant harvest,/
They said to each other, what shall we do? We have
nowhere to store our crops/
We will tear down our barns and build larger ones,/
Then we will be able to say, "We are secure
for many years./
Let us take it easy, eat, drink and celebrate."/
But God said to them, "You fools,/
This night your souls are required of you./
And the things you have stored, whose will they
be?/
Thus it will be for all who store up treasures for
themselves,/
But are not rich towards God."/
