A READING FROM THE LETTER TO THE HEBREWS
(FIRST READER ONLY)

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for/

The conviction of things not seen./

By faith, Abraham and Sarah obeyed when they were called/

And they went, not knowing where they were to go./

By faith, they sojourned in a land of promise/

As in a foreign land./

By faith, they received power to be fruitful/

Even when they were past the age./

Since they considered the one who had promised, faithful/

Therefore, from one couple, were born descendants/

As many as the stars of heaven/

These all died in faith, having seen the promise from afar/

Desiring a heavenly homeland./
