A READING FROM THE GOSPEL OF JESUS ACCORDING TO
MATTHEW (FIRST READER ONLY)
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain/
He sat down with his disciples gathered around him./
Then he began to teach them:
Blessed are you who have the spirit of the poor/
For the realm of God is yours./
Blessed are you who mourn,/
For you shall be comforted./
Blessed are the gentle/
You shall own the Earth./
Blessed are you who hunger and thirst for justice/
You shall be satisfied./
Blessed are the merciful/
For you shall find mercy./
